Literature Text

It started with 'Minerals'.

There's always a lot of talk about whether not you've got the minerals to do what you need to do, but I think the real question isn't whether or not you can.  Whether you can live with yourself after the fact is a much, much better question. Many claim to never be able to take a life, should it come to a self-defense situation, they would just let themselves die, but I have a hard time imagining this to be true. I heard an interesting phrase last night, I can't remember it word for word, but it was along the lines of, "Lucky is the man who never has to find out what he's truly capable of.".

I wonder though, if the time comes and it is you or the one who's trying to kill you, whether your animal instinct will come out, and you will not only fight for your own survival, you'll kill to prevent theirs. And I wonder how you'll live with it when the day is done..

"How would you?", you may ask, and it's a fair question.

"Who knows?" is the only response I can honestly give. My dislike of humanity, and general emotional detachment to the same point to me not being overly beaten up over taking someone's life, especially if my own is on the line. If the media is to be believed, conditioning I've received from video games, especially combined with the combat training I've gained from martial arts, and airsofting with my brothers, make it more likely that I would competently pull the trigger against a fellow human.

Whether or not I could actually do the deed? Whether I could actually live with the thought after it's all said and done? Well, the only way to know for sure is to do it.

So what are we truly capable of? Care to find out?
One Word in One Minute wrote the first paragraph.

Can't really think of anything else to say about it.
